The final season of The Originals hasn't even premiered yet, but there's already a reunion of sorts in the works at The CW. Creator Julie Plec, who directed a recent episode of Riverdale and also helmed an episode of the final season of The Vampire Diaries, has signed on to direct the pilot of the network's Roswell reboot — which was written by The Originals writer Carina Adly MacKenzie.

Roswell is based on the Roswell High series of books by Melinda Metz and not the early '00s WB series of the same name, though that show was also based on the same book series. If the pilot is ordered to series, Plec will serve as an executive producer on the new show.

Per the pilot's official description, the new series follows a twentysomething woman who "reluctantly" returns to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico.

"The daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance."

The Originals returns April 20 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
