Take a Chance on These Returning Shows

TV Time has some suggestions for your Fall TV viewing. ABC

Overwhelmed by the sheer number of TV shows debuting during the next month or so? TV Time is here to help. If you like any of the shows below, then you'll definitely want to check out one of the similar series debuting within the next few weeks.

Here are the returning shows you should check out this fall:

"9-1-1" (Fox)

If you watch Station 19, try 9-1-1.

They're both at least partially set in firehouses, but also feature plenty of inter-personal drama (and even some romance too).

"The Good Doctor" (ABC)

If you watch The Resident, try The Good Doctor.

Both newish medical series take place in hospitals and star hot youngish people being hot and saving lives, but they're a little less soapy than a show like, say, Grey's Anatomy.

"The Gifted" (Fox)

If you watched Marvel’s Inhumans, try The Gifted.

Badass superheroes come together to escape from the evil enemy that's hunting them down. Sounds kind of familiar, huh? Check out the second season of the X-Men series on Fox.

"The Good Place" (NBC)

If you watch Superstore, try The Good Place.

Both series are feel-good comedies, for the most part, but while Superstore is more of a workplace sitcom, The Good Place is a philosophical rumination on life. It sounds heavy, but it's completely hilarious.

"Empire" (Fox)

If you watch Empire, try Star.

It's a no-brainer, especially considering both Lee Daniels series have crossed over. If you're into the Lyon musical family drama on Empire, then you'll probably enjoy the drama of Star, about an up-and-coming girl group.

"Will & Grace" (NBC)

If you watch Will & Grace, try Murphy Brown.

Both recently rebooted series were groundbreaking in the '90s, and have plenty more to say about the world of 2018.

"This Is Us" (NBC)

If you watch American Housewife, try This Is Us.

At their heart, family comedies and family dramas are almost the same — shows that remind you about the good and bad parts of your own life and family, it's just that This Is Us makes you cry a lot more.

"Dark" (Netflix)

If you watch DARK, try El Marginal.

Looking for a creepy, foreign-language drama? You can't go wrong with either.

"Big Mouth" (Netflix)

If you watch BoJack Horseman, try Big Mouth.

Both of these Netflix animated series share some hard truths about life. And while BoJack is set in the world of "Hollywoo," Big Mouth focuses on the terrifying world of puberty.

"Cloak & Dagger" (Freeform)

If you watch Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, try Black Lightning.

Both superhero series debuted in 2018 and feature a grounded plot that deals with plenty of the troubles facing the real world today, they just also have superpowers.

"Riverdale" (The CW)

If you watch The Bold Type, try Riverdale.

Warning: Both of these series are incredibly addictive, but Riverdale is much darker and pulpier than the fun, bright, but still occasionally serious world of The Bold Type. (There are no serial killers in The Bold Type — at least not yet.)

"Dynasty" (The CW)

If you watch Famous in Love, try Dynasty.

Young Hollywood might be filled with drama, none of that can compare to the soapy catfights of Dynasty. (Seriously, so many catfights.)

"Penny Dreadful" (Showtime)

If you watched Penny Dreadful, try Lore.

The now-finished horror period drama featured famous literary characters, while the Amazon horror series is based on the podcast of the same name (and the second season trailer looks scary as hell.

"Castlevania" (Netflix)

If you watch The Seven Deadly Sins, try Castlevania.

Like The Seven Deadly Sins anime about a princess on the hunt for evil knights to help take back her realm? Then check out the anime about a vampire hunter fighting against a Dracula-controlled army of otherworldly beasts.
