Most Anticipated Shows of 2019

It's really never too early to start thinking about next year. And no, we're not talking about new year's resolutions — we're talking about TV, duh.

By looking at the tens of millions of show follows for TV series, we've determined the top new and returning shows that will hit your screens in early 2019. From highly anticipated spinoffs to highly anticipated third seasons and highly anticipated new comedies to highly anticipated adaptations... Okay, yeah, everything is highly anticipated. That's why we made the list! 

It might be too early to set your DVR just yet, but here's a list of shows you'll definitely want to add to your watchlist.

NEW SHOWS

1. Good Trouble (Freeform), Premieres Jan. 8

This spinoff of Freeform's The Fosters stars Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez as foster sisters Callie and Mariana living their young adult lives in Los Angeles.

2. Deadly Class (Syfy), Premieres Jan. 16

Based on the comics, this series follows teens at a high school for assassins, and yes we hope it's going to be as badass as it looks.

3. The Passage (Fox), Premieres Jan. 14

Mark-Paul Gosselaar stars as a federal agent who becomes the surrogate father of a young girl who has been chosen as the test subject for a top-secret medical facility in this series based on the best-selling book trilogy.

4. Project Blue Book (History), Premieres Jan. 8

This scripted drama is based on the true, top-secret investigations into UFOs by the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s and '60s.

5. Black Monday (Showtime), Premieres Jan. 20

Don Cheadle, Andrew Rannells, and Regina Hall star in this dark comedy about the mega-stock market crash of 1987.

NEW SHOWS (RELEASE DATE TBD)

1. The Witcher (Netflix)

Henry Cavill stars in this adaptation of the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.

2. Good Omens (Amazon) 

Neil Gaiman's post-apocalyptic novel comes to life with Michael Sheen and David Tennant.

3. What We Do in the Shadows (FX)

Jermaine Clement writes and Taika Waititi directs this New York City-set small-screen adaptation of their cult-hit mockumentary about vampires living in modern-day New Zealand.

4. Watchmen (HBO)

Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) is adapting the famed comic book for TV, and the project will star Jeremy Irons, Jean Smart, Regina King, Don Johnson and many more.

5. City on a Hill (Showtime)

Yes, of course this new series about 1990s Boston that stars Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge is produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (and is based on an idea by Affleck and Chuck MacLean).

6. Fosse/Verdon (FX)

Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams are starring in this limited series about the romantic and creative partnership between choreographers and director Bob Fosse and dancer Gwen Verdon.

RETURNING SHOWS

1. True Detective (HBO), Returns Jan. 13

Oscar winner Mahershala Ali stars in the third season of the acclaimed HBO drama.

2. Brooklyn Nine-Nine (NBC), Returns Jan. 10

The Nine-Nine returns with a sixth season at its new home, NBC. Noice!

3. Young Justice: Outsiders (DC Universe), Returns Jan. 4

The animated series returns for a third season after a three-year hiatus on the DC Universe streaming service.

4. Gotham (Fox), Returns Jan. 3

The fifth and final season of the Batman origin story is subtitled "Legend of the Dark Knight" and will focus on Bruce Wayne's ultimate transformation into the Caped Crusader. Also, Epix is developing its own Batman-related tale with Pennyworth, due out in 2019 as well.

5. Friends from College (Netflix), Returns Jan. 11

The dark comedy about a group of friends who — you guessed it — went to college together returns for a second season.

6. Winx Club, Returns Jan. 28

The animated Italian series comes back with new episodes in January 2019.

7. Victoria (PBS), Returns Jan. 13

The young queen's marital relations — yes, in the bedroom — will take center stage in the third season of this historical drama about England's Queen Victoria.

8. Siren (Freeform), Returns Jan. 24

The second season of this series about killer mermaids invading a small fishing town (and the subsequent conspiracy that was uncovered) returns in January.

9. The Magicians (Syfy), Returns Jan. 23

A seemingly unstoppable monster is on the loose, but our magical heroes are stuck in the real world with no idea that magic exists. It's only a question of how long it'll take into the fourth season for them to wake up to the crisis facing them.

10. Future Man (Hulu), Returns Jan. 11

The time-travel comedy will see the Wolf (Derek Wilson) and Tiger (Eliza Coupe) bring Josh (Josh Hutcherson) to 2162 Earth.

11. Star Trek: Discovery (CBS All Access), Returns Jan. 17

The Discovery and her crew return for a second season of future space adventures in January.

12. Date A Live (TV Tokyo), Returns Jan. 1

High schooler Shido will return to woo the new girl at school, who happens to be a Sprit, and try to save mankind (no big deal) in January.

13. grown-ish (Freeform), Returns Jan. 2

Black-ish's Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) returns to Cal U for her sophomore year.

14. Broad City (Comedy Central), Returns Jan. 24

Weed-loving BFFs Abbi and Ilana will return for a fifth and final season in January.
