Murder, Secrets, And Surprises Underscored "Game of Thrones" Season 7

Jon Snow felt a kinship with the dragons in Season 7. HBO

The seventh season of Game of Thrones answered a lot of the questions that have been brewing for years. We have been avid viewers throughout all of the coups, battles, murders, and power plays that abound in Westeros – and now we are approaching the inevitable end. With many protagonists dead, we are left with three main stories to follow: The Stark family in the North, Deanerys Targaryen plotting to take the Iron Throne, and the Lannisters desperately clinging to power in King's Landing.

Here’s a look back at the top moments of a season that thrilled, confused, and made us question who should sit on the Iron Throne. Spoilers ahead!

10. Ed Sheeran's Cameo

A favorite of Maisie Williams', Ed Sheeran's cameo was a surprising moment that made some squeak for joy, and others question question the bizarre moment, in a show that seemed to be void of “celebrity guest stars.”

9. Lyanna And Rhaegar's Secret Marriage

This may have been the scene that ruined all our hopes of a real union between Jon and Dany, but we were happy to know that Jon wasn't a bastard after all, and that his parents loved each other. However, we also grieved the doomed romance between the Dragon and the Wolf. Love is never easy in Game of Thrones ...

8. Jon's Suicide Mission

Jon traveled to Eastwatch with a small force of men that was seemingly a suicide mission. Their desire to capture a Wight as proof that the Night King existed, was indeed a deadly game.

7. Theon Turns Coward Again

Faced with Euron's threats and Yara's silent pleas, Theon chose to abandon ship rather than stay and defend his sister. His anxious jump into the water, driven by the terror around him was seen as a fall from grace.

6. Daenerys And Jon Give In To Their Feelings

The powerful union between ice and fire was spellbinding. But as we watched their love story unfold, we did feel kind of guilty to be rooting for this romance knowing their biological connection …

5. Daenerys Arrives At Dragonstone

When Daenerys finally set foot on the shores of Dragonstone for the first time in ages, she didn’t waste time exploring her ancestral home. Instead she examined the painted table of Westeros and asked Tyrion, "when they can begin."

4. Blue Fire Melts Down The Wall

With Viserion now a servant of the Night King, the dark lord led his army to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea where he commanded Viserion to blast the Wall with blue fire. He destroyed the castle and a large portion of the Wall, allowing the Army of the Dead to pass into the Seven Kingdoms. The ending left fans wondering who would die in the Wall's collapse and what the breach ultimately means for the future.

3. Arya Kills Littlefinger On Sansa's Order

Sansa and Bran turning the tables on Littlefinger was one of the most eventful moments of Season 7. After Sansa called Petyr out for his crimes, Baelish attempted to manipulate the situation and begged for his life, but the Starks wouldn’t have it and an unimpressed Sansa commanded Arya to slit his throat, leaving him to die in a pool of his own blood.

2. Arya Poisons House Frey

Arya used Lord Walder's face to impersonate him at a feast. She let Walder's sons drink from the poisoned wine but kept any women from partaking of it. Arya watched with satisfaction as the Freys coughed up blood and died in agony. When she removed her mask she told those that remained to tell anyone that asks what happened that "the north remembers.”

1. Viserion Becomes A Wight

Viserion accompanied Daenerys and his brothers Rhaegal, and Drogon to rescue Jon Snow beyond the Wall. After the dragons burned and killed many Wights, the Night King threw an ice spear at Viserion, piercing the dragon's neck. The helpless dragon fell into the frozen lake and disappeared beneath the water. Just when we thought this was the last that we would see of Viserion, his corpse was dragged from the lake and resurrected by the Night King, making him an Ice Dragon and a dangerous ally of the White Walkers.

What a season. Do you remember all these moments?
