Finally, the 2019 fall TV season has arrived, and it’s going to be one to remember! From new comedies and dramas to farewell seasons from fan favorites, September will keep you busy. Kicking off our September Anticipation Report is The Politician, which will ring in Ryan Murphy’s new deal with Netflix. The brand-new comedy stars Ben Platt as “Payton Hobart,” a wealthy student determined to become President of the United States, but must first face the obstacle of dominating his high school political landscape. The star-studded series featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch, Dylan McDermott, and Bette Midler to name a few comes to fruition on the 27th.
Next, on September 24th and 25th, ABC adds two new dramas to our fall line-up with Stumptown (No. 2) and Emergence (No. 5). Based on the graphic novels of the same name, Stumptown follows an army vet (Cobie Smulders) who becomes a private investigator in Portland, Oregon to support her disabled brother. Emergence is a thriller that takes us across the country to Long Island’s Peconic Bay where a young girl is found near the site of a mysterious accident. She’s rescued by a sheriff who is confronted by bizarre happenings and unexplained forces that may or may not be connected to the child ...
The drama and mystery continue with Prodigal Son (No. 3) on the 23rd. Murder is the family business in this FOX crime series as a gifted criminal psychologist (Michael Sheen) uses his “twisted genius” to help the NYPD stop killers and solve crimes. How does this psychologist know the ins and outs of the murderers’ minds, you ask? His father was a notorious serial killer, of course.
Lastly, closing out our new category is Netflix’s latest mini-series, Unbelievable (No. 4). Based on an episode of “This American Life” and the Pulitzer Prize-winning article, “An Unbelievable Story of Rape,” the series will explore the true story of Marie, a teenager who was charged with lying about having been raped, and the two female detectives who discover the truth. The eight episode order is set to arrive to Netflix on September 13th.
September's returning offerings bring back shows near and dear to TV fans! The first Friday of the month shepherds in the arrival of the second season of Spanish teen drama, Elite (No. 1) to Netflix. New students join the cast and new lies arise in Season 2 as the kids of Las Encinas High School face love, hate, and betrayal. Also arriving on the 6th with a second season is DC Universe’s, Titans (No. 2). Immediately following the apocalyptic events of Season 1’s finale, Rachel’s demonic father, Trigon, sets out to gain control of the young superheroes by bringing out their inner darkness.
Coming in at No. 3, is the ninth season of American Horror Story. ‘80s fashion, campfire stories, and murder come to FX with the appropriately titled, AHS: 1984. Paying homage to the classic slasher films of the 1980s, a group of counselors must try to survive camp life and escaped mental patient, “Mr. Jingles.” Although AHS veterans, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, are sitting this season out, recent players like Billie Lourd and Cody Fern will gear up and visit the site of the “worst summer massacre of all time” on September 18th.
And finally, all good things must come to an end ... On September 26th, fans will start to bid “farewell” to two beloved network series, The Good Place (No. 4) and How to Get Away with Murder (No. 5). For the fourth and final season of The Good Place, the gang is going back to where it all began: Michael’s neighborhood experiment. There, they will try to prove that any group of people can become better with the right amount of love, support and empathy. Meanwhile, Shondaland series, How to Get Away with Murder, will wrap up Annalise Keating’s story in its sixth season. Plot details have yet to be revealed, however, fans are bound to get answers as the series ties up loose ends and dives into Season 5’s cliffhangers!
The fall goodies continue in October with new and returning series from The CW such as Batwoman, Nancy Drew, and Riverdale, plus, a new drama from Hulu, Looking for Alaska, as well as the tenth season of The Walking Dead will enter the fray!
