How "Game of Thrones" Will Prevent Finale Spoilers

"Game of Thrones" might not return until 2019. HBO

Game of Thrones has taken plenty of precautions to prevent spoilers from leaking, so it should be no surprise that HBO has already figured out how to keep the series finale from getting out. The plan: film several different endings.

“I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” HBO boss Casey Bloys said in a recent speech. “You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

As for when the episode will ultimately air, there's still a good chance we might not be able to see it until 2019.

Bloys said that the production timeline is still up in the air, and because filming begins in October and spans multiple countries and continents, it might not finish until later in 2018.

“Our production people are trying to figure out a timeline for the shoot and how much time the special effects take,” Bloys said.
