Season 5 of Game of Thrones was all about traveling, fanatical religious sects, and power plays in King's Landing and Braavos. Elsewhere Melisandre and Stannis Baratheon approached, ever closer. It was a fiery season with a chilling finale. But do you remember the season's most memorable moments? Read ahead, but spoilers lie in the distance.
10. Cersei's Walk Of Atonement
We will never forget the "shame" meme that was made from this sequence, but following days of internment in a cell, Cersei was brought before the High Sparrow to confess her sins. She finally coped to adultery, but denied her relationship with Jaime. Later, stripped naked with her hair shorn, Cersei was forced to walk naked through the streets of King's Landing to the Red Keep as punishment.
9. Grey Worm and Ser Barristan Fight Together
When a patrol of Unsullied was ambushed by the Sons of the Harpy, it looked like Grey Worm's day were numbered. Finally, Ser Barristan Selmy arrived to help. Even though Barristan was a skilled warrior, he was stabbed multiple times leaving Grey Worm and Barristan collapsed together, surrounded by the dead. R.I.P. Ser Barristan.
8. Myrcella's Kiss Of Death
Jaime arrived in Dorne to bring Myrcella home to King’s Landing, but as they boarded their boat, Ellaria Sand kissed Myrcella with her poison-coated lips. Tragically Myrcella explained to Jaime that she knew of his relationship with Cersei, and that he was her father, but the damage was already done. Father and daughter shared a brief moment together before Myrcella collapsed and died in Jaime’s arms. R.I.P. Myrcella, we barely knew you.
7. Sansa's Heartbreaking Wedding Night
Sansa’s marriage to Ramsay Bolton proved to be difficult from the very beginning. We all suspected where it was going, but Sansa's forcible rape broke hearts (especially as it occurred in front of Reek).
6. Arya's Punishment
Arya murdered Meryn Trant without the blessing of the Many-Faced God and was blinded as punishment for her disobedience.
5. The Sacrifice Of Shireen
What a horrible moment. When Ramsay Bolton's attack left Stannis and his men short on supplies, he allowed Melisandre to sacrifice his daughter Shireen along with several other victims. Melisandre offered her prayer to the Lord of Light and with a stone cold expression, she burned Shireen alive. We can only hope that Ser Davos will avenge Shireen in the future.
4. The Night King Raises His Army of Dead
The Night King appeared once again when Jon and Tormund were overseeing the evacuation of Hardhome. As Jon and others fled on a boat, the Night King chillingly rose his arms and raised all of Hardhome's dead defenders as Wights. What a terrifying demonstration of his powers!
3. Cersei Is Locked Up
Upon her arrest, the Faith Militant took Cersei to her cell, where she made the ominous threat that her face would be the last thing they would see before they died.
2. The Mother of Dragons Is A Dragonrider
As she tried to get Drogon out of the range of the Sons of the Harpy, Daenerys climbed atop his back and told him to fly away, becoming the first Targaryen dragonrider in over a century. Daario, Tyrion, Jorah, and Missandei looked on in disbelief as Drogon and Daenerys vanished from their sight.
1. Jon Is Stabbed To Death
The most heartrending moment of Season 5 was the death of one of the series most popular characters -- Jon Snow. Jon was tricked to a gathering of his Watch brothers where he was stabbed several times for his decision to allow the Free Folk to cross into the Seven Kingdoms in order to save them from the White Walkers. The final stroke came from Olly, who stabbed Jon in the heart before leaving him alone in the cold to bleed out.
