SHOWS ON THE RISE: New Series And Foreign-Language Entries Pop To The Top

"Whiskey Cavalier" is the show to beat! ABC

ABC’s new series Whiskey Cavalier is the show that turned heads this week. The new program leads our “Shows on the Rise” report this week following a special preview after last Sunday’s Oscars telecast and the show’s official debut on Wednesday. At a 99.90% rise rate, it’s the series to beat, while SyFy’s Van Helsing (No. 2) benefitted from a recent fourth season renewal in the wake of rising viewership. Shadowhunters (No. 3) arrived back to Freeform with a vengeance. In the wake of the program’s cancelation, fans still tuned-in with vigor to the show’s mid-season premiere of its final episodes.

On the foreign-language front, young-adult Netflix entry Go! Live Your Way (No. 5) certainly resonated with audiences. Once described as the Argentinian Glee, the show made waves following its Season 1 debut on February 22nd. Meanwhile, Canadian dark comedy Workin’ Moms (No. 4) also profited from a premiere on the streaming network, as did the Season 2 arrival of Italian series Suburra (No. 10). Finally, FOX’s explosive reality hit The Masked Singer rang in its finale with top viewership at No. 9, while Roswell, New Mexico (No. 7) and Riverdale (No. 8) rose, the latter following a few weeks off.

DID YOU KNOW? The stars of Whiskey Cavalier previously starred in two of last year’s more popular series. Lauren Cohan’s The Walking Dead ranked No. 10 in episode viewership, while Scott Foley’s Scandal rang in its final season at No. 57 globally.

This week, with A.P. Bio and For the People heading into their second seasons and new Netflix horror thriller The Order and comedy After Life dropping, who will reside at No. 1? Could it be the second season of Starz’s fantasy series American Gods that proves tough to beat? We will be back to let you know on Monday the 11th.

*Methodology: Every week, millions of viewers around the world use TV Time to track their favorite series. “Shows on the Rise” is calculated by determining the week-over-week growth in episodes watched for a given program.
