SHOWS ON THE RISE: Global TV Dominates With Four International Entries

"Russian Doll" quickly rose to No. 1 after it's release on February 1st. Netflix

Netflix paved the way last week, as our “Shows on the Rise” report indicates that three of their original series arrived in our top ten, beginning with Natasha Lyonne comedy, Russian Doll. The deadly take on a Groundhog Day scenario jumped to No. 1 mere days after its eight episode release while new Colombian supernatural series, Always A Witch, followed close behind at No. 2. Meanwhile, South Korean original, Kingdom (No. 7), also held its own with the zombie series maintaining placement after falling from its previous week at the top.

Hit shows from around the globe continued to trend up with French comedy, Sam, premiering its third season on the 28th, and Druck, the German adaptation of SKAM, made strides in the middle of its second season. On the network front comebacks carried the flag with the mid-season premieres of Will & Grace (No. 5) at NBC, and the recent returns of CBS’ Madam Secretary (No. 6), The CW’s Legacies (No. 8), and Black Lightning (No. 9).

Will Netflix continue to dominate with the return of One Day at a Time this Friday? Or will viewers make room for other streaming leaders such as Amazon’s Hanna and Hulu’s Pen15 when they make their debut? All will be revealed next Monday!

DID YOU KNOW? Despite being the No. 1 series on our “Shows on the Rise” Report, Russian Doll unfortunately didn’t break into the top ten on our “Binge Report” -- coming in at a close No. 13. There’s always next week!
