Victor Colinet is retired from the railways. Passionate about music, he devotes all his free time to playing and forms a happy string trio with two friends. Twice a week, Victor meditates on the grave of an illustrious Italian composer, Attilio Alboretti, whom a beautiful adagio has made famous. One fine day, the musician's ghost calls out to Victor and offers to dictate the notes of some melodies to him.
