Le Furet sends letters to the police prefect indicating the date on which a crime will be committed in one of the various arrondissements of Paris. Convinced that he is a madman, the police do not take him seriously at first. Six crimes having taken place, and after each time having arrested relatives of the victims, the police finally launched a ferret hunt.
