During the Korean War, racial tensions develop when a black sergeant takes command of a group of white marines. His struggle to win their respect centres on a recently demoted NCO whose resentment forces continual confrontation. However, a bond is forged between the two antagonists when the ex-NCO is wounded and the black soldier donates blood that saves his life.
