Mauricio is a Frenchman who arrives in Barcelona fleeing from justice. He takes refuge in a boarding house in Chinatown and falls in love with Pilar, the owner's niece. Soon after, a murder is committed in the neighborhood, and Mauricio, whose past is quite dark, becomes the prime suspect. Pilar trusts her innocence and tries to find out the truth, but circumstances conspire to make her increasingly suspicious.
