John Mortimer

Sir John Clifford Mortimer CBE QC FRSL was a British barrister, dramatist, screenwriter and author, best known for creating the character Horace Rumpole. Mortimer was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1948 and retired in 1984. Awarded a CBE in 1986, he was made a knight bachelor in the 1998 Birthday Honours.
