General conferences are the semiannual worldwide gatherings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (which are typically held during the first weekend of April and the first weekend of October each year) and where Church members gather to receive guidance and encouragement from Church leaders about gospel living based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded on April 6, 1830, which is also considered the "1st Annual General Conference" of the Church. The first televised broadcast of General Conference was on October 1, 1949, which was the 119th Semi-Annual General Conference of the Church, or in other words, (as of 1949) 119 years since the LDS Church was founded in 1830, -- when the "First Annual General Conference" of the church was held.
