Rosa, in the interior of Minas Gerais, at the beginning of the 20th century, circumstantially repeats the story of her mother Rosaura, grandmother Maurina and great-grandmother Naná, whose destiny is to give birth to a daughter and never get married. However, Rosa is much more unhappy than her ancestors. When she is raped by her boss Olegário, she witnesses his murder by his wife Dona Branca, takes the blame for the crime and has to face the hatred of the couple's son, Augusto, for whom she fell in love.
