The bell-ringing, hymn-singing Mrs Tilston (Prunella Scales)has inherited a large house from her mother. In memory of her recently deceased parent who was slightly doolally, Mrs Tilston turns the family home into a voluntary therapy centre for women with behavioural problems. Mrs Tilston has her own catchphrase "Up and Dashing" and her own line in sweat-shirts bearing inscriptions such as "He is mine", "I am his" and "He is the light".
