While 2017 saw the debuts of buzzy new series Riverdale and 13 Reasons Why, at the halfway point of 2018, the list of TV Time users' most-followed shows is much less robust. So far this year, no shows have caught on nearly as fast as Netflix's word-of-mouth teen drama hit (or The CW's word-of-mouth teen drama hit, for that matter).
While a whopping one million people were following 13RW on TV Time after its debut, this year's top show — the sprawling sci-fi drama Altered Carbon — has just a third of those numbers, more than 100,000 fewer than Riverdale's half million.
Netflix does come out on top, however, with a whopping six shows out of the top 15, including the top 4 (Altered Carbon, The Rain, Lost in Space and the bizarrely canceled Everything Sucks!).
There are plenty of genre series represented on the list — The CW's superhero series Black Lightning, Freeform's Marvel drama Cloak & Dagger and killer mermaid drama Siren, Syfy's superman prequel Krypton — as well as true-crime oriented series, (Harlan Coben's Netflix series Safe), procedurals (Fox's 9-1-1 and medical drama The Resident), and historical dramas (AMC's The Terror, TNT's The Alienist).
In a TV season where nearly every single show's ratings has fallen — and most new shows are only able to pull average numbers at best — it appears there haven't been too many breakout hits. Well, up to this point, at least. There are still plenty of debuts to come over the summer and when the Fall TV season begins, so stay tuned!
