The Fate of "Timeless" Is Sealed: Find Out What Else Is Renewed and Canceled

"Timeless" has finally gotten a verdict. NBC

A bittersweet update for TV fans awaiting renewal and cancelation news: ABC and NBC have made major decisions regarding two of their most talked-about series.

First, at ABC: The network canceled Roseanne after star Roseanne Barr tweeted a racist comment, but the show will live on — without its title character. ABC has officially ordered a spinoff called The Conners, which will star basically everyone else from the original cast: John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman.

It'll look a lot like Roseanne, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, "a sudden turn of events" will change things for the Conners and their life in Lanford.

"We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience," Goodman, Metcalf, Gilbert, Goranson and Fishman said in a joint statement. "We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

Then, at NBC: Unfortunately, after a long waiting period, the network has ultimately decided to cancel its time-travel historical drama Timeless. If you'll remember, the network originally canceled it after its first season, only to bring back the series at midseason instead. That looks a lot less likely this time around, but there is hope that the show could come back for a two-hour wrap-up movie.

"This is a sad day for the writers, actors, crew and especially the viewers of Timeless. We are all extremely proud of what we made and know that it was more than just a show for so many of our fans. It became a passion and a cause for many of them," creator Shawn Ryan tweeted. "We’re proud of the impact @NBCTImeless had on so many people - the students who embraced history as a result of our show, the people who were inspired by our stories of inclusion and acceptance. We saw your tweets and were inspired by you."

He also encouraged fans to tweet to NBC if they want to see how Wyatt, Rufus and Lucy's journey ends. "If NBC is sincere in wanting a 2 hour movie to give much needed closure to our amazing @NBCTimeless fans, we are ready to make it," he wrote. "We don't want the journeys of Lucy, Wyatt, Rufus and the others to end yet. #ClockBlockers"

In other renewal news: AMC has renewed The Terror for a second season, Netflix has renewed Dear White People for the third season, Starz has renewed Vida for a second season, FX has renewed Atlanta for a third season, TV Land has renewed Younger for a sixth season, and HBO has renewed its new drama Succession for a second season.
