SHOWS ON THE RISE: Anime Hits And Basic Cable Overperforms In Diverse TV Week

"Aggretusko" rises to No. 1 after its Season 2 release. Netflix

Girl power is the trend to beat this week starting with Netflix’s anime series, Aggretsuko. The comedy’s Season 2 release jumped straight to No. 1 with a rise ratio of 97.2% while another anime series, Kakegurui, enters at No. 4. Netflix also debuted the third and final season of fan-favorite, Marvel’s Jessica Jones (No. 2), and the series revival of Tales of the City, coming in at No. 8. Additionally, HBO’s hit drama, Big Little Lies (No. 3), rose into the top 3 during the show’s second week of its sophomore season.

Meanwhile, cable television had a robust week with half of our top 10 divided across the basic cable networks. Big season premieres from Syfy’s Krypton (No. 5), Pose (No. 6) on FX, and TV Land’s Younger (No. 7) put the shows back on viewers’ radar while supernatural series, Good Witch (No. 9), and Siren (No. 10), received a boost in the midst of their respective seasons.

With the series premiere of Grand Hotel and the return of Yellowstone and Dark on the way, will more drama enter our report next week? We will reveal all next Monday!

DID YOU KNOW? Following heavy hitters like American Horror Story and American Crime Story, Pose is the fifth most-watched Ryan Murphy production in 2019 so far. (Murphy’s recent FOX procedural, 9-1-1, holds the silver medal position.)

*Methodology: Every week, millions of viewers around the world use TV Time to track their favorite series. “Shows on the Rise” is calculated by determining the week-over-week growth in episodes watched for a given program.
