Araguaia tells the saga of a man who defies his destiny in the name of love and justice. 1845. During the Farroupilha Revolution, Antonia falls in love with the indigenous Apoena. During an attack on the farm where Antonia lives, the Indian runs away with her. Antonia gets pregnant and Apoena decides to take the beloved to her tribe, the Karuê. There, India Iarú, wife of Apoena, displeased to lose the husband to Antonia, decides to take revenge. Ask for the help of a shaman to cast a curse on Apoena and Antonia: as long as there is Karu'e blood on Earth, starting with that boy Antonia is giving birth to, all her sons and their future generations will have premature death on the banks of the Araguaia River. Before dying, Antonia recounts this story in a recipe book, which is passed down from generation to generation. After a few decades, Antoninha, descendant of Antonia and knowing of the curse, decides to give her son Fernando to his friend Mariquita to create far from Araguaia. Many years pass, and Fernando, a handsome middle-aged man with a dubious character, loses his last savings, and decides, together with his wife Estela, to meet his son with whom he had little contact, Solano, in a city called Pirenópolis. Upon arriving in the city, Fernando discovers that his biological mother is very sick. Neither Ferdinand nor Solano know her, so Mariquita asks them to accompany her to the town of Girassol, on the banks of the Araguaia, where Antoninha lives, to be introduced to her. Surprised, but glad to meet his son, grandson and daughter-in-law, Antoninha warns them to leave Araguaia because of the curse. Nobody believes. Shortly after, Antoninha dies. Even after the warnings of his mother, Fernando decides to remain in the region to inherit the lands that Antoninha left and sell them so that he can follow its course. However, upon discovering that the property of the resort will pass into the hands of Colonel Max as payment for former debts of the farmer,
