The trajectory of Antônio Maciel in his arduous social climb, with conquests, failures and love conflicts involving two women of opposite temperaments and social levels: Carolina, an earthy and rude woman, and Luiza, a girl fine and studied. Luiza belongs to the powerful Salles Jordão family, owners of the largest farm in Guará, a city in the interior of São Paulo, and political leaders in the region. Her brother Atílio becomes Antônio's biggest rival. He is an aggressive-tempered, earthy and conservative coffee grower.
