SHOWS ON THE RISE: “Nightflyers” Proves It’s The Sci-Fi Event To Beat As “Maisel” Marvels

Syfy's "Nightflyers" takes the No. 1 slot this week. Syfy

The long-awaited arrival of George R.R Martin’s Nightflyers adaptation takes flight in this week’s “Shows on the Rise” report proving that the juggernaut novelist is a hit no matter the genre. While viewers have gotten a daily stream of episodes since the SyFy series premiered on December 2nd, it is still the show to beat now that Amazon Prime Video has released all episodes of their award-winning series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (No. 2) Season 2, this past Wednesday. However, binge-provider Netflix makes a case for the power of streaming with the debut of The Ranch (No. 3) Part 6, as well as Italian series, Baby (No. 5), which recently made a controversial debut. Bingers are also wrapping up the latest seasons of F Is for Family (No. 6) and Netflix’s first-ever Polish-language series 1983 (No. 7). Meanwhile, Rick and Morty (No. 8) has yet to produce a fourth season, but an international release of older seasons of the Adult Swim show has brought forth new life.

With Tidelands, Travelers, and a holiday special from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on the horizon, will Netflix continue its stride? Or will The CW’s crossover event “Elseworld” give the superhero bevy of shows the rise they need to break into the Top 10?

DID YOU KNOW? That Family Guy just missed our Top 10 this week, which is tragic considering the show just bid goodbye to beloved actress Carrie Fisher’s character “Angela,” in a memorable eulogy to the icon.

*Methodology: Every week, millions of viewers around the world use TV Time to track their favorite series. "Shows on the Rise" is calculated by determining the increase in episodes watched for a given program in the last week over the previous week.
