Bert van Leeuwen follows the struggle of four patients for whom crowdfunding is the last hope for a cure or a better quality of life. With the money from the crowdfunding they undergo treatment that is not reimbursed in the Netherlands. This often involves treatment abroad because the treatment is not available in the Netherlands. In the program, the viewer is called upon to donate and to make this treatment possible. This program is about the question of what (the quality of) a human life is worth, viewed from the limits of our current health care system. Due to the limitations of our health care system, crowdfunding is the last hope for an increasing number of patients for a cure, life extension or a significant improvement in their quality of life.
